What
During the course of our relationship, we may
collect some personal information. This may include
your name, street and email address, phone number,
and credit card information. We also have a record
of your purchases and donations. We sometimes have
more detailed information from patrons who have
been dedicated and long-term supporters of Opera
Ontario, for example the names of members of their
family, business addresses and special
interests.
When
Most of this information is collected when you buy
tickets. It may come to us through your phone call,
mail or email order or when you come to the Box
Office.
Why
We need this information for billing purposes, to
mail your tickets, to contact you about changes in
schedule or upcoming events and special offers: in
short, to provide the level of service you have
come to expect from us.
We try to call all our ticket buyers at least once every year to obtain feedback, update information and offer the opportunity to become more closely associated with the Opera Ontario through Membership.
Sponsorship plays a vital role in funding our productions and helps to keep costs down. Our sponsors may sometimes ask us to share special promotions with our patrons or to canvass them for research concerning the effectiveness of their Opera Ontario sponsorship. Sometimes, as a service to our patrons, we may also distribute information regarding related cultural organizations.
Where
Only authorized personnel have access to this
information. If ever we share your information with
an outside organization (such as the mailing house
that sends out our mailings), we have a contract
binding them to the same strict privacy controls
that we use ourselves.
How
With your consent, we will send you information
that we believe to be of interest to you. We are
also committed to ensuring that patrons and donors
do not receive an unreasonable number of letters or
phone calls.
Please be aware that our Privacy Policy is still evolving. Check back here for updates.
Patron and Donor Privacy Protection
Commitment
Opera Ontario acknowledges the individual's right
to privacy and is committed to protecting the
confidentiality of its patrons' personal
information. While Opera Ontario has always had
this aim, its new privacy policy provides patrons
with all of the safeguards recently standardized in
the Personal Information Protection and Electronic
Documents Act (PIPEDA), which becomes effective
January 1, 2004.
Opera Ontario collects personal information in order to complete patron requests and orders, and to enhance the theatregoing experience as much as possible. Depending on the nature of a patron's relationship with Opera Ontario, such information may include the following: home address, phone number(s), fax number(s), e-mail address(es), credit card number(s), date of birth, name(s) and age(s) of spouse/partner and/or dependents, familial relationships, a complete record of all tickets purchased and donations made, requests for brochures, and preferences or special needs identified by the patron, such as special-access seating or hearing assistance devices.
Opera Ontario does not lend, rent or sell its patron list to any organization or individual. The Opera does contract third-party agencies to prepare mailings and conduct research on its behalf. A privacy protection clause is included in all contracts with such third parties to guarantee that they provide the same level of protection as Opera Ontario itself.
If you have questions about your personal privacy or would like a copy of our full Patron Privacy Statement, please write to: David Speersi, Opera Ontario, 69 Hughson St. North, Hamilton, ON L8R 1G5 or email us at operaassistant (at) operahamilton dot ca. Thank you.
