Message from David Speers
Our 2011-12 Opera Season is full of many firsts! For the first time we are presenting our season at the wonderful Dofasco Centre for the Arts. The intimacy of the theatre and the enhanced production and technical attributes of the hall promise us all a much more personal experience with each performance.
In our new home we present some wonderful music and theatre -- operatic masterpieces -- featuring a roster of some of Canada's finest young artists. Two extremely different works grace our stage in the coming year. Rossini's comic masterpiece Il barbiere di Siviglia, literally brims with endless melody and dramatic high-jinks, and Verdi's powerful and visceral epic Il trovatore has four of the most coveted roles in all of opera. Both feature productions new to Opera Hamilton.
Popera Plus! our much beloved performances of Opera's Greatest Hits will help warm the January winter chill. We may even have an additional "surprise" in this 2011-12 line-up. You will leave the hall "humming tunes" from some of the world's most popular and beloved music.
We welcome back some of Opera Hamilton's favourite performers from past seasons, as well as continuing to introduce new emerging artists to our patrons.
Thank you for embracing us for over three decades. We look forward to welcoming you to our new home – with a commitment to the highest level of artistic excellence. Join us for the adventure of our 2011-12 season!
Sincerely,
David Speers
